Everyone in my class write so well... I'm so lost. I'm like that kid who's out drowning in the lake while everyone else swims back to shore. Oh see there's a poem! Why can't I write that?

Creative Autobiography: English 300 Assignment
What is the first creative moment you remember?
When I was a young child I would carefully organize my toys so that they always had a specific spot in the “world”. My mom says that if someone tried to move one of my toys when I wasn’t looking, I would immediately know that something was missing or out of place.
Was there anyone there to witness or appreciate it?
My parents and aunt were always around to watch me. My parents were always taking photographs, candid and creative ones. Thinking about this now, I really think it was inevitable that I would become a photographer.
What is the best idea you’ve had?
To stop making my life decisions with someone else in mind. After I ended a long-term relationship I finally got the ambition to go to art school.
What made it great in your mind?
When I finally made it to art school I felt like I belonged again, I had reestablished my place in the world.
What is the dumbest idea?
Trying to keep everyone around me happy despite the way they’ve acted towards me. I have this thing where I can’t even sleep if I think someone’s upset with me. I have to resolve the issue immediately.
What made it stupid?
I don’t think notion is a terrible thing. However, it’s unrealistic especially if you’re trying to please miserable people. Sometimes you have to accept they have problems you can’t solve.
Can you connect the dots that led you to this idea?
Bad friendships and life conflicts lead me to this idea.
What is your creative ambition?
I’m always coming up with new ideas for photo shoots. Ideas I want to share with the world. I get inspiration from about every aspect of life from things I feel, to colors I see.
What are the obstacles to this ambition?
I have a lot of ideas and sometimes they are difficult to execute. In my profession I have to work with a lot of people and rely on them. This can be somewhat scary.
What are the vital steps to achieving this ambition?
Staying focused: get through school, land the dream job, build portfolio. My plan is pretty straightforward; it’s my creativity that’s going to be put to the test.
How do you begin your day?
Usually my alarm goes off, then I set it to an extra 15 minutes. If my roommates alarm goes off at the same time, I get up earlier so we won’t be getting ready at the same time. I plan out my outfits the night before so I’m not rushed through my makeup.
What are your habits? What patterns do you repeat?
All of my friends tell me that I make very expressive faces. They’ll say, “oh you’re making New York faces again!”
Describe your first creative act.
The neighborhood kids and I would put on a dance routine to show off our parents every summer that my neighbors Ed and Margaret would return from Florida. We had choreography and music.
Describe your second creative act.
Before I had decided on Photography, I was interested in Graphic Design. I would make elaborate poster designs where others did PowerPoint. My biology teacher had the students design a “cell brochure” where I portrayed parts of the cell as stores in the mall. My brochure was deemed best design by my class. I was really proud.
Compare them.
Both of these acts were beginnings of my creative world. Although one was dance and the other was design, neither were what I would later pick as my profession, despite still loving them even now.
What are your attitudes toward: money, power, praise, rivals, work, play?
Money is important but I only like to have as much as I need. I don’t need all the extras. Rivals are important for keeping you on your feet and constantly improving. Power and praise are important too. You need a certain amount of inspiration from other people, but overall what you think of yourself is the most important.
Which artists do you admire most?
Leonardo DaVinci, Michelangelo, Patrick Demarchelier, Cindy Sherman, Ansel Adams
Why are they your role models?
They are all people who are extremely gifted artistically and could be considered the best in their particular fields. Very passionate people.
What do you and your role models have in common?
We all have an artistic dream.
Does anyone in your life regularly inspire you?
My parents, my friends, artists, myself.
Who is your muse?
Life.
Define muse.
A muse, to me, is someone or something that inspires you creatively or in life.
When confronted with superior intelligence or talent, how do you respond?
I accept it, and when I feel down I think that there will always be someone smarter or more gifted than you. I remind myself to keep pushing forward. The end result is being happy and successful with one aspect not everything.
When faced with stupidity, hostility, intransigence, laziness, or indifference in others, how do you respond?
Not everyone can “be on their game 24/7”. Sometimes having a down day is what gives us the strength to keep fighting the next.
When faced with impending success or the threat of failure, how do you respond?
Working under pressure is interesting. I find I either have the best result or the worse, or sometimes I just break even. I think both success and failure are important for getting where you want to go in life.
When at work, do you love the process or the result?
I work at a photo studio where I mostly do editing. I’m always proud of my work and enjoy the entire atmosphere and process involved.
At what moments do you feel your reach exceeds your grasp?
Sometimes I get over-ambitious with projects. It’s just fun to work with what you have and see what you can make of it.
What is your ideal creative activity?
Fashion photography.
What is your greatest fear?
Dying forgotten.
What is the likelihood of either of the answers to the previous two questions happening?
If I end up doing everything I believe I can I’ll be a successful fashion photographer. I’m going to make sure I do everything I can to be remembered. I’m pretty sure that no matter what I will never be forgotten by the people around me.
Which of your answers would you most like to change?
I wouldn’t change anything. I accept good and bad. They are part of life.
What is your idea of mastery?
I think it’s having a certain amount of knowledge about something and being able to execute it every time.
What is your greatest dream?
I would like to be successful in my art. I want to successfully convey my ideas and have many people view them.
